The upcoming Michael Jackson biopic film, titled “Michael” and directed by Antoine Fuqua with a script by John Logan, has been steadily advancing in casting since its announcement in January 2023. Scheduled for release on April 18, 2025, through Lionsgate and Universal, production is currently underway.
The film will chronicle Jackson’s career milestones, spanning from his early days with the Jackson 5 to his ascent as one of the world’s most renowned stars. Additionally, it will address the allegations of child abuse that overshadowed his later years, culminating in his passing in 2009 at the age of 50.
Casting commenced with Jackson’s nephew and Jermaine Jackson’s son, Jaafar, selected to portray Michael during his prime. Playing the younger Michael will be Juliano Krue Valdi.
Director Fuqua expressed astonishment at Jaafar’s likeness to the King of Pop, noting his ability to emulate Jackson’s voice, dance moves, and singing prowess. Fuqua told EW, “It’s really uncanny.”
Joining the cast are Colman Domingo and Nia Long, cast as Jackson’s influential parents, Joe and Katherine, respectively. Miles Teller will portray Jackson’s attorney, John Branca.ho Eight actors, divided into two age groups, will depict Jackson’s brothers: Jermaine, Marlon, Tito, and Jackie. The ensemble includes Jayden Harville and Jamal R. Henderson (Jermaine), Jaylen Lyndon Hunter and Tre Horton (Marlon), Judah Edwards and Rhyan Hill (Tito), as well as Nathaniel Logan McIntyre and Joseph David-Jones (Jackie).
