A24’s “Love Lies Bleeding,” a lesbian bodybuilder thriller, features Kristen Stewart and Katy O’Brian (“The Mandalorian,” “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”) as star-crossed lovers entangled in dark events. It’s not for the faint-hearted.
“Love Lies Bleeding” marks Rose Glass’s second film after her debut, the acclaimed horror “Saint Maud,” which faced delays due to COVID-19. Now, her new work is ready to captivate audiences.
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, receiving praise from viewers. Our review described it as “an impressive directorial achievement that complements the work of Glass’s equally stirring cast.” Now, “Love Lies Bleeding” is nearly available for everyone.
The release date?
“Love Lies Bleeding” hit limited release on Friday, March 8, expanding on March 15. The film will be released in the United Kingdom on May 3.
Streaming plans?
Unfortunately, “Love Lies Bleeding” is only in theaters for now. However, it will eventually stream on Max, A24’s streaming platform. Other recent A24 films available on Max include “Priscilla” and “Dicks: The Musical.” Films like “The Iron Claw” and “Talk to Me” are still only on PVOD platforms.
Who stars in “Love Lies Bleeding”?
Alongside Stewart, portraying a small-town gym employee, and O’Brian as her love interest, the cast includes Dave Franco as Stewart’s brother-in-law, Jena Malone as her sister, and Ed Harris as her father, a menacing gunrunner and bug enthusiast. Anna Baryshnikov also stars as Stewart’s ex, who becomes embroiled in shady dealings.
Set in a neon-lit, alternate reality of the 1980s American Southwest, the film oozes with sleaze and allure, with the cast fully embracing the movie’s tone.
