Talking about his future plans, David Moyes, the West Ham United manager, said that he is not planning to “be going away” but instead will not discuss any details of a new contract till the end of the season.
Moyes was under a lot of pressure from his supporters due to poor results by his team. But all the criticism changed to appreciation after the team got a 4-2 victory. It was the first main trophy won by West Ham in the last 43 years. Jarrod Bowen scored his first goal in the fifth minute of the game, becoming the first West Ham player to score a Premier League hat-trick at the London Stadium.
While informing me about a new deal, Moyes said, “When you get to my age you can sign contracts whenever you feel ready to do so. It’s probably getting pushed more by the media than anyone else. We’re all happy to wait until closer to the end of the season.”
On the question about whether Moyes wants a big win at London Stadium or not, he said, “I’ll not be going away, that’s for sure. I enjoy it here; the club has been good to me. We have really enjoyed football over the years. When you think we were a relegation team not so long ago, and now we are up around Europe.”
Monday night proved to be lucky, as it was the first win by the Hammers in 2024. They lost their last match against Arsenal at London Stadium with a score difference of 6-0. Disappointed fans had to leave the stadium at halftime, but West Ham surprised everyone when they scored 2-0 against the Bees in the very next fixture.
After the first two goals by Bowen, Neal Maupay reduced the difference by securing a goal. Brentford (the Bees) were trying to level up with West Ham when Bowen scored another goal in the second half. The second goal by Yoane Wissa was unable to turn the defeat of the Bees into a victory.
According to the latest standings, West Ham hold the 8th position in the Premier League, while Brentford is five points away from their delegation zone, at position 16.
In previous matches, West Ham lost to Arsenal by 6-0 and to Nottingham Forest by 2-0. Although the fans criticized this poor performance by the team, Moyes has continued to maintain its position at the top of the table.
After the goal scored by Maupay, the team started to improve, but two back-to-back goals after the break took their chances of winning away.
Thomas Frank, who is the coach for the Bees, while commenting on the performance of his team, said, “The frustration is we performed badly overall. It seems after a very good performance against Manchester City, it’s two steps back again. It’s an inconsistent season so far. These players have a fantastic mentality and work ethic but we didn’t have a high enough performance today.”
