Pakistani Actor And Director Khalid Butt Passed Away

Veteran Pakistani actor and director Dr Khalid Said Butt, well known as Khalid Butt, who was suffering from kidney and liver-related diseases, passed away at the age of 77 on Thursday, January 11, in Lahore. According to the local reports, his funeral prayer was offered last Friday at the Khalid Masjid, Cavalry Ground Extension, Lahore.

Butt was born in Multan on September 21, 1946. He then moved to Lahore for the sake of his career in the showbiz industry. He graduated from Government College Lahore and earned a Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, Berkeley, in the USA. He was the founding director general of the Pakistan National Council of the Arts, the former director general of Lok Virsa, the former managing director of NAFDAC, and the former director general of the National Hijra Council.

He started his entertainment career in the 1970s as an assistant director, and then he featured in both Urdu and Punjabi-language films and TV series. He earned immense fame for his work on Pakistan Television.

The government awarded him Pride of Performance for his contributions to the entertainment industry. He received the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the French government.

In addition, he appeared in PTV’s productions such as Landa Bazar, Boota from Toba Tek Singh, and Teesra Kinara. Later on, he performed in Khuda Aur Muhabbat (season 1). While he was last seen in Geo Entertainment’s drama, Khaie, along with Faysal Quraishi and Durefishan Saleem.

Butt had two sons, Osman and Omar, and a daughter, Michelle Tania; his son, Osman Khalid Butt, is also an actor-director.

Many showbiz personalities and political figures, including Faisal, Durefishan, Hina Khawaja, and others, expressed their condolences to the late actor on their social media platforms.
