Yemen is under attack by the US and Britain for bombarding and damaging shipping in the Red Sea with the help of Iran as retaliation for Gaza. Explosions at the military bases near airports were confirmed by witnesses in the cities of Sanaa and Taiz in Yemen. According to US President Joe Biden, “These targeted strikes are a clear message that the United States and our partners will not tolerate attacks on our personnel or allow hostile actors to imperil freedom of navigation.”
John Kirby, a spokesperson for the White House, said that the attacks have made it difficult for the Houthis to store and launch their missiles. They will not be able to attack like they did earlier in the week.
According to the US military, the targeted sites are 60 in number which are present and 28 different locations. 150 munitions were used in order to target these sites. US Lieutenant General Douglas Sims said, “I know we have degraded their capability. I don’t believe that they would be able to execute the same way they did the other day. But we will see.”
According to the Houthis, five of their fighters lost their lives in a total of seventy-three air strikes by the USA. They warned of retaliation in the form of attacks on shipping, which they are doing in order to stop Israel from attacking Palestinians.
A member of the Houthi Supreme Political Council, Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi, in a statement said, “Your strikes on Yemen are terrorism. The United States is the Devil.”
Tehran has been blamed for supporting houses with military intelligence for their attacks by US officials. It is possible for the USA to “restore security across the region by ending its all-out military and security cooperation”, Hossein Amirabdollahian, Iranian Foreign Minister, posted on X.
Joe Biden has expressed his deep concerns over the oil price hike amid the Middle East crisis. Commercial ships have to take longer roads, which are costly because of the fear of attacks. This can cause inflation and disruption in supply chains.
