Warner Bros. Discovery announced on Thursday its plans to introduce its Max streaming service in Europe starting May 21, just ahead of this year’s Olympic Games in Paris. The platform will bring a mix of HBO Max’s scripted entertainment like “The Sopranos” and “The Wire,” along with Discovery’s reality shows and Eurosport’s television network, to European audiences.

Details regarding pricing for the new launches will be disclosed at a later date and will vary from one country to another. In the U.S., Max’s starting price for subscribers is $9.99 per month for the ad-supported plan.

Last May, Warner Bros. Discovery initiated the launch of Max in the U.S., aiming to bolster its streaming growth amidst rising competition from the likes of Netflix and Walt Disney.

Initially, Max will be introduced in the Nordics, Iberia, and Central and Eastern Europe in May, followed by subsequent launches in Poland, the Netherlands, France, and Belgium. The platform will stream all live events from the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris across European countries where the service is available.

“Paris 2024 will be included in all subscription plans, ensuring all customers will gain complete access to the biggest sporting event in the world,” stated Warner Bros. Discovery.

Subscribers will also enjoy access to international and European sports, including all four tennis Grand Slam events: the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, and the U.S. Open.

The European debut of Max will coincide with the season 2 premiere of HBO Original “House of the Dragon” on June 17.
