The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have extended their support to the Prince and Princess of Wales following the news of Catherine’s cancer diagnosis, according to information obtained by the media.
Although Kensington Palace has not officially commented on the matter, it is understood that the communication was conducted privately.
Prior to this, Prince Harry and Meghan expressed their wishes for “health and healing” for Catherine, urging her and her family to undergo their healing journey “privately and in peace.”
Catherine, in her statement on Friday, admitted that the news had come as a “huge shock” to her. In a brief video message, she mentioned enduring an “incredibly tough couple of months” but assured that she was feeling “well” and “getting stronger every day.”
While the specifics of the cancer have not been disclosed, Kensington Palace has said that the princess remains optimistic about making a full recovery.
It was in January when Catherine underwent abdominal surgery, with no indication at that time of any cancer. Subsequent tests, however, revealed its presence.
Harry and Meghan relinquished their roles as senior royals in January 2020 and relocated to California by June of the same year, citing a desire for a more private environment to raise their son, Archie. The couple welcomed their second child, Lilibet, the following year.
Notably, King Charles had also recently been diagnosed with cancer, prompting Harry to visit London in early February to be with his father after the commencement of his treatment. However, Harry did not meet his brother during this visit.
In an interview with the media following his trip, Harry expressed gratitude for the brief time spent with his father in London. He acknowledged that such health concerns could bring families closer together.
Responding to Catherine’s news, Karine Jean-Pierre, the press secretary for US President Joe Biden, characterized it as “terrible” and conveyed the White House’s hopes for her complete recovery. Jean-Pierre emphasized the importance of respecting the royal family’s privacy during this challenging time.
Since Harry’s announcement of stepping back from royal duties, reports suggest a strained relationship between him and his brother. In his memoir titled “Spare,” Harry detailed his conflicts with William.
The brothers have been seen together infrequently in recent years. However, in 2022, William, Catherine, Harry, and Meghan made a surprising joint appearance outside Windsor Castle to greet crowds following the Queen’s death.
Earlier this month, both brothers took part in a London awards ceremony paying tribute to their late mother, Princess Diana. However, they did so from different locations, with William delivering a speech in person while Harry addressed the event via video link from California after his brother’s departure.
