Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Will Be Available Now At McDonald’s

McDonald’s patrons will soon be able to enjoy Krispy Kreme doughnuts alongside their morning McCafe as the two brands embark on a new food collaboration aiming to broaden their appeal. However, some analysts caution that while such partnerships may hold potential, they also carry risks.

The partnership will see three varieties of Krispy Kreme doughnuts—originally glazed, chocolate iced with sprinkles, and chocolate iced “kreme” filled—available for sale at McDonald’s eateries later this year, as confirmed by both companies in the news on Monday.

This move triggered a surge of over 39% in Krispy Kreme shares on Tuesday, though McDonald’s shares remained unchanged.

While brand partnerships can attract new customers and foster innovation, they also present challenges. Truist analysts point out that Krispy Kreme’s doughnut delivery model must efficiently reach rural McDonald’s locations situated more than 20 miles from urban hubs.

McDonald’s has been grappling with customer backlash over rising prices, prompting adjustments to its menu pricing. CEO Chris Kempczinski addressed affordability concerns in February, signaling forthcoming price cuts on selected items.

To celebrate the collaboration, Krispy Kreme is offering a complimentary glazed doughnut to visitors at its locations between 5 and 9 pm on Tuesday.

Initially trialed at 160 Kentucky restaurants, the Krispy Kreme doughnuts will roll out nationally in participating McDonald’s outlets by the end of 2026, following a phased introduction. Truist analysts view this prolonged testing phase as a risk-reducing measure for both partners.

Customers will have the option to purchase the doughnuts individually or in packs of six, available during breakfast hours until stocks last.

While McDonald’s boasts nearly 13,500 US locations, Krispy Kreme outlets are fewer in number. However, Krispy Kreme products are also sold in various retail outlets, including Walmart. The collaboration is expected to significantly expand Krispy Kreme’s reach, with CEO Josh Charlesworth anticipating doubling their points of access by 2026.

Krispy Kreme has been streamlining its focus on doughnuts, having acquired Insomnia Cookies. Yet, plans for expanding locations remain uncertain, prompting questions from analysts about the impact on existing stores located near McDonald’s outlets.
